About Us
Edgecombe Health Center by Harborview is located in Eastern North Carolina in the small town of Tarboro, NC. Our center is centrally located between Rocky Mount and Greenville. Our facility accepts referrals from many accredited hospitals in the area including Vidant Edgecombe (Now ECU Health Edgecombe) and Vidant Health (Now ECU Greenville), UNC-Nash, UNC- Chapel Hill, and Duke.
The services we provide range from long-term care and skilled nursing to short-term rehabilitation with our excellent rehab staff. We offer specialized wound care with an on-site certified wound nurse and nurse practitioner, who oversee treatment and care provided. We also provide 24-hour MD coverage for all our residents.
Edgecombe Health Center offers a host of amenities and desirable features including an in-house beauty salon, out of this world dining & cuisine, a beautiful, covered patio and garden area, and activities and events suitable for many ages, needs, and interests. Our dedicated rehabilitation staff are in-house and employees of the center. Edgecombe Health Center is a nursing agency free environment.
One of our biggest achievements to date is receiving the American Health Care Association Gold Quality Award for our excellence in leadership, strategic planning, and customer and staff satisfaction.

DEMENTIA / ALZHEIMER’S CARE
Dementia is not one specific disease, but is a term used to describe a variety of symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain. These disorders are characterized by impaired memory and difficulty with language, motor activity, recognizing objects and “executive function,” which refers to the ability to plan and organize.
Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive brain disease that slowly, over time, destroys memory and thinking skills. It is the most common cause of dementia among older people.
If a family member or friend has dementia, you know that caring for them can be mentally and physically challenging, and can also put strain on your family and friendships.
At Edgecombe Health Center by Harborview, your loved one will receive around-the-clock care in a quiet, comfortable setting and be engaged in a variety of activities designed to provide a sense of self-worth and purpose. We also use music or memory programs to help patients enjoy each day to its fullest.

How does the admission process work?
We will schedule a time to help you complete your admissions paperwork within the first 24 hours. You are welcome to bring any additional questions regarding your insurance benefits and your stay at this time or at any time while you are in the center.
We also offer an electronic admission paperwork option which allows e-signature via email if you have a busy schedule or are still at the hospital.
What should we bring to our admissions meeting?
- Active medical insurance card and Medicare / Medicaid cards
- Pharmacy (Part D) Prescription coverage card
- Driver’s license or photo ID card
- Social Security Card
- Advanced Directives Do Not Resucitate (DNR) paperwork
- Power of Attorney documents (medical, financial, durable)
- Guardianship paperwork
How do we establish a specific personal care plan?
Your physician communicates medication and treatment orders at the time of your hospital discharge. These orders will be implemented to help provide continuity of care.
Upon admission, the interdisciplinary team will work with you and your family to identify care needs, preferences, and goals for your stay. You are a valuable partner in the process.
Within the first few days of your stay, you and your family will be invited to participate in a care planning conference to discuss needs, discharge planning and progress toward goals.
